Massage is the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and well-being.
Within physiotherapy there are many soft tissue techniques that we use that might by laymen be thought of as massage. These include soft tissue release, trigger point release, deep transverse frictions, and specific soft tissue mobilisations.
